The order never changes

AC Installation Close to Home

Every AC installation we do for residential and commercial customers in town follows the same order as any other job: the load calculation, the written quote, the install, then the test.

The new unit's size comes from the house, worked out with a "Manual J" load calculation, never from the nameplate on the unit coming out. A house that has gained new windows or attic insulation since it was built often needs less cooling than the system it came with.

  1. Room-by-room survey

We go through the windows, walls, attic and duct runs, and those measurements settle the size before any equipment is discussed.

  2. Paper before work

You see the system, its "SEER rating", the efficiency rating, and what it all costs, so the choice is made with every figure in front of you.

  3. Out with the old

The old equipment is removed, the outdoor condenser and indoor coil are set, and the "line set" and drain are connected and sealed.

  4. Full cycle, then cleanup

The system runs start to finish while we check the air at the vents, then we show you the thermostat and sweep up.

What the years leave behind

Local Homes and Their Cooling Needs

Homes here lean older, and a new system has to work with ducts, returns and wiring that were put in for equipment from an earlier era.

Before we quote, we look at what the years have done: duct joints that have opened, a return too small for the airflow a new unit wants, and a circuit that has to carry the new load. We also read the "static pressure", the airflow pressure in the ducts, since an old duct run often cannot move as much air as a modern unit pushes.

In the Orange Avenue Historic District, the closet or attic of an older house may also decide which indoor unit fits, so we measure that space before we price anything.

Wet air, long summers

Weather a System Faces Here

Air here carries a lot of water, so a new system has to dry the house as well as cool it, and its size decides whether it can.

All that water leaves through the "condensate line", so we pitch it, trap it and flush it clear at the install; a clogged line puts water on the floor around the indoor unit.

Outside, whether the house sits near the Old Spanish Fort or out by the beach park, the "condenser coil" sheds the heat into the same damp air. We set it with open space on every side so it can breathe.

Cools fast, then shuts off in "short cycling" before the moisture is out, so the rooms feel clammy.

Longer, steadier runs that pull water out of the air while they cool.

The same phone number covers the repairs and upkeep that follow, on the cooling side and the heating side.

  • AC Repair When the Heat Peaks

AC repair is the call when the house stops cooling, the unit keeps turning on and off, or water collects around the indoor unit. The town sees about 40.7 days a year above 90°F, and those are the days a weak capacitor or a dirty coil finally gives out.

  • HVAC Services Through the Year

HVAC services look after the cooling and the heating together, the air conditioner ahead of summer and the heat ahead of winter. Of the occupied homes here, 51.8% are lived in by their owners and the rest are rented. Owner or landlord, a system checked each season is less likely to quit in the middle of one.

  • Furnace Repair for the Cold Snaps

Furnace repair is for heat that will not come on, blows cold or shuts off after a few minutes. Cold weather comes in short snaps here, so a furnace sits unused most of the year, and in a house as old as many in town the flue and gas line around it have often been reworked, so we check what is really there before any part is ordered.

Choosing a System

Or ask us on the phone: (228) 364-8743

Which AC system is best for a home?

It depends on the house more than the brand. A home with sound ducts usually suits a central split system, or a heat pump if you want the same outdoor unit to heat as well; rooms the ducts never reached suit a "ductless mini-split".

The size comes from the load calculation, and the efficiency rating is chosen with you after the size is settled.
