The job

AC Replacement in Biloxi

AC replacement takes the worn air conditioner out and puts a correctly sized new one in its place, on residential and commercial systems alike.

At a house that is usually the condenser in the side yard and the "air handler", the indoor unit, in the attic or a closet. At a shop or office it is often a "packaged rooftop unit" on the flat roof.

  • The old equipment comes outDisconnected and lifted off the pad or the roof curb, so nothing worn is left behind.
  • A new high-efficiency unit goes inSet, connected and started, at the size the load calculation calls for.
  • Ductwork changed where it needs itDucts that do not suit the new system are changed as part of the same job.

Repair or replace

Repair or Replace Your AC

Replacement is often the right call for a badly damaged unit or one older than 10 years, and once a repair would cost more than 40% of a new system.

On a unit older than 12 years, a repair priced past that share of a new system is where the trade quotes both jobs, so you can weigh fixing it against replacing it with real numbers in hand.

Any of these is a good reason to price a new air conditioner:

  • The unit is older than 10 yearsA system that age has run through a lot of long, humid summers, and the next big repair is rarely the last one.
  • A compressor has failedIt is the heart of the outdoor unit and the costliest part to replace, which on an older system often tips the choice.
  • Repairs keep comingA service call every season adds up, and that money could go toward a unit that runs without them.
  • Energy bills keep risingOn a system older than 10 to 15 years, a more efficient unit can bring the monthly bill down.

Sizing

Sizing the New Air Conditioner

The new unit is sized by a load calculation, not by the size of the old one or a square-footage rule.

The trade's standard for that calculation is "Manual J", set out in the ACCA Manual J Residential Load Calculation. It works out how much cooling this house actually needs.

Getting it right matters both ways. A unit too big for the house cools the air fast and shuts off before it pulls the moisture out, the on-and-off pattern called "short cycling", and the rooms stay clammy.

  1. You call

We answer the phone or call back the same working day and set a time to come look at the house.

  2. The site assessment

The house is measured, and the "static pressure", the returns and the capacity of the equipment there now are checked.

  3. Size, rating and quote

The load calculation sets the size, you choose the "SEER rating", and the whole job is quoted before any work starts.

  4. Old out, new in

The worn unit comes out, the new one is set and started, and we clean up when the work is done.

Cost

What AC Replacement Costs

AC replacement is priced by the size of the new unit, its efficiency and the duct work the job needs, within the ranges published for the area.

  • Size

More cooling capacity costs more, and the load calculation decides how much the house needs.

  • Efficiency

A higher efficiency rating costs more up front and less to run through a long cooling season.

  • Duct work

Ducts that can stay keep the figure down; ducts that have to be changed add to it.

A compressor replacement often pushes an older system toward replacement, so ask for both prices on the call.
