From the estimate to cool rooms

AC Installation Close to Home

A new air conditioner for a home or business in town goes in the way every job of ours does: a load calculation, a quote, the install, then a full test.

Nothing about the size is guessed from the old unit's label. The house decides it, and you see the whole plan and its price before any equipment is ordered.

  1. Size it to the house

We run a "Manual J" load calculation: the rooms, the windows, the insulation and the ducts set how much cooling the home needs.

  2. Price the whole job

We go over the equipment and its "SEER rating" with you and write the full price before any work starts.

  3. Put it in

The outdoor unit goes on its pad or stand, the "line set" runs to the indoor coil, and the drain gets a clear path.

  4. Test it running

We start the system, check the air at the vents and the airflow, and show you the thermostat before we leave.

The houses we work in

Local Homes and Their Cooling Needs

The typical house here was built around 1986, so many of them have changed out the air conditioner before and often still cool through ductwork from the year they went up.

That is why a new install starts indoors. We look at the ducts and the "air handler" in the attic or the closet before anything else, because a new outdoor unit is only as good as the air path it feeds.

Whether the house sits near Bayou View Park or out toward Turkey Creek, Landon or Orange Grove, the same checks set the size.

Weather a System Faces Here

A new system here has to carry a long, hot cooling season, and that is the reason its size gets worked out on paper before anything is ordered.

Too small and it falls behind on the worst afternoons. Too big and it cools the air in short bursts without pulling out the humidity, the "short cycling" that leaves a house cold and clammy at the same time.

  • 2,645

Cooling degree days in an average year

A season this long keeps the system running almost constantly, so getting the size right matters more here.

  • 81

    Days a year above 90°F

Heat like that pushes equipment to its limit. A unit sized to the real load and a clean "condenser coil" decide whether it keeps up.

Repairs and Upkeep in Town

We fix and look after the systems we put in, and the ones somebody else did.

AC Repair When the Heat Peaks

With 63 inches of rain a year, the air here is wet, and an AC pulling that moisture out all summer is the kind that clogs its "condensate line" and leaves water standing around the unit.

When it stops cooling, leaks or cuts off too fast, we find the cause and quote the fix.

HVAC Services Through the Year

A system that runs nearly all year wears faster, so a tune-up in spring and another before the heating months does more here than in a mild town.

We clean the coils, clear the drain and check the heating side while we are there.

Furnace Repair for the Cold Snaps

In homes that date from around 1986, a lot of heating equipment sits idle through long summers for years, and a sudden cold night is when a weak part shows itself.

If the heat will not come on or runs cold, we track down the fault.

Asked on the phone

A Common Question

How long should an AC unit last?

It comes down to how hard the system works and how well it is sized and kept up. Here a long, wet cooling season keeps it running almost constantly, and an oversized unit that short-cycles, a dirty outdoor coil or a clogged drain line wears it down faster.

If yours is getting on, call and we tell you straight whether it is worth repairing or due for replacement.
