The whole system

HVAC Replacement in Biloxi

HVAC replacement on residential and commercial buildings installs new indoor and outdoor units, updated controls and the duct changes the system needs.

It is the job for a system where both halves are tired. Rather than put a new outdoor unit beside a worn air handler or furnace, everything is replaced at once and matched to each other, so the parts start their working life together.

  • Homes

The indoor half usually sits in the attic or a utility closet, and the outdoor unit on a pad or a raised steel stand in the side yard.

  • Shops and offices

Light commercial buildings often run on a "packaged rooftop unit", the whole system in a single cabinet up on the flat roof.

What is in the job

What a System Replacement Includes

A system replacement includes new units, updated controls, thermostat setup and any duct changes needed.

These are the five parts of the job, numbered as they appear on the drawing:

  1. Outdoor unit

The condenser that sheds the heat outside, set level on its pad or stand.

  2. Indoor air handler or furnace

The cabinet holding the coil and blower that pushes air through the ducts.

  3. Thermostat

Installed, checked for compatibility with the new equipment and calibrated.

  4. Duct changes

Runs that do not suit the new system are changed, and the joints sealed with "mastic".

  5. Old equipment removal

The worn units are disconnected, taken out and hauled away from the property.

Sizing and choosing

Choosing Size, Brand and SEER Rating

The new system's size comes from a load calculation, and its size, brand and SEER rating are chosen together.

The trade's method for that calculation is set out in the ACCA Manual J Residential Load Calculation, run on the building as it stands today rather than read off the label of the unit coming out.

  • Size

A "Manual J" figure says how much cooling the rooms need. A unit too big cools fast and shuts off before the moisture is out, the on-and-off habit called "short cycling", and the house stays clammy.

  • Brand

Goodman and Rheem air conditioners are among the most commonly sold and installed, Rheem's Triple Diamond line included, and Trane makes high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.

  • Efficiency

The "SEER rating" is the energy rating on the unit. A higher rating costs more up front and less to run through a long, humid cooling season.

From the call to a running system

  1. You call

We answer the phone or call back the same working day and set a time to see the building.

  2. Measure the building

Rooms, windows and ducts are measured for the load calculation, and the "static pressure" in the ducts is checked.

  3. See the whole price

Units, ducts and controls are quoted as a whole before any work starts, with no surprise charges after.

  4. Old out, new in

The worn equipment comes out, the new cabinets are set and connected, and duct runs are changed where the system calls for it.

  5. Set up and run

The thermostat is set up, the system is started and run through heating and cooling, and we clean up when the work is done.

Cost

What HVAC Replacement Costs

A whole-system replacement is priced by its size, its efficiency and the duct work, within the range published for the area, and financing spreads it over monthly payments.

  • Size

More capacity costs more, and the load calculation decides how much the building really needs.

  • Efficiency

A higher rating raises the price of the equipment and lowers what it costs to run.

  • Duct work

Adding ductwork depends on the length of the runs, how easy the attic or crawlspace is to reach, and any zoning.

  • Financing

For qualifying installs, approval can come back within minutes.

Covered after install

Warranty on a New System

A new system usually carries a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty plus one year of labor in the trade, and regular maintenance keeps that coverage valid.

So the yearly tune-up is part of owning the equipment, not an extra. Keep the record of each visit with the paperwork that came with the new units.
